A record number of tourists traveled to Mexico in March of this year. Cancun International Airport shared arrival data from March showing nearly 700,000 passengers traveling to Cancun (692,686 to be exact). This is a 5% increase from 2019 which was the pre-pandemic heights for Cancun. The airlines and hotels in Mexico are both benefiting from the increase in tourism.
This is positive news for the Mexican tourism economy, which was severely impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic.
You have a few factors driving this, vaccine distribution and pent up demand are two key contributing factors.
Pent up demand from the lock downs of 2020 had many Americans and international travelers missing their 2020 vacation plans. Travel companies saw unprecedented levels of cancellations. This prompted a surge of travelers hitting the skies soon after travel bans were lifted.\
With more and more Americans vaccinated by the day more people are feeling comfortable traveling.
